Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center in Johns Creek, Georgia, is a 46-acre protected landscape that joins woodland trails, wetlands, and Sal’s Creek with a historic village built from restored structures tied to the area’s rural past. It emerged from a 1987 preservation campaign led by Margaret Krueger and Judy Webb to save land that included the remains of a grist mill and dam. The property reflects a long history, from Cherokee ownership in 1755 and forced removal in 1830 to settlement after the 1832 Cherokee County Gold Lottery and the later Autrey mill. Today it preserves native species, historic buildings, and collections on local, natural, and Indigenous history.
