Redwine Church was apparently founded before 1800 and named for Jacob R. Redwine, a Revolutionary soldier born in Pennsylvania who moved here from North Carolina. The present building, erected in 1906, is the fourth church on the site. The first was a log cabin several hundred yards west near the old cemetery, where Maj. Nathaniel Durkee, hero of the Revolutionary Battle of Kettle Creek, is buried. The noted Methodist preacher Lorenzo Dow once spoke here. Many scenes in The Circuit Rider’s Wife by Corra Harris, wife of Rev. Lundy Harris, are set in and around this church; Lundy Harris preached here in 1887 when he married.
