Mount Warburton Pike, on Saturna Island in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands, is among the region’s highest summits and lies within Gulf Islands National Park Reserve; its summit now also carries the CHEK-DT transmitter. The mountain takes its name from Warburton Pike, who acquired land on Saturna in 1886 and whose ranch included the peak. Pike was an explorer, sportsman, and author known for writing The Barren Ground of Northern Canada. After returning to Britain during the First World War and being refused enlistment because of his age, he died by suicide. His memory was also preserved in place names and a memorial in the Dease Lake region.
