In the ghost town of Elgin, this one-room schoolhouse preserves a direct record of rural education in Nevada. Rancher James Bradshaw donated seven acres in 1921 after Lincoln County approved construction funding, and his son Rueben Bradshaw built the school, completed in 1922. A small addition in 1924 created living quarters for the teacher, reflecting the needs of a remote community. The school served local children until 1967, when it closed after its last student reached 8th grade and students began traveling by bus to Caliente and Panaca. Restored in 1998, it later became a state historic site and retains many original furnishings.
