Claybank Log Church was restored to its original pioneer condition in 1980 by descendants of William A. "Billy" Byrd, 1850-1931, and his wife, Ophelia Dowling Byrd, 1854-1931. The church was selected as a landmark contributing to a deeper understanding of American heritage and was entered on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
