Snake River Canyon cuts across southern Idaho’s Magic Valley as a dramatic trench more than 50 miles long, especially striking around Twin Falls, where its walls reach about 500 feet deep. Near the city, landmarks such as Perrine Bridge, Hansen Bridge, and Shoshone Falls make it a center of scenery, recreation, and tourism. The canyon floor once supported some of the valley’s first successful farming, including operations begun by I. B. Perrine, before irrigation shifted agriculture to surrounding lands. Its story also includes changing geological interpretations and a lasting place in popular culture through Evel Knievel’s 1974 jump attempt and Eddie Braun’s successful 2016 crossing.
