Washington Rock State Park is a fifty-two-acre park in Green Brook, New Jersey, atop the first Watchung Mountain, known for a broad overlook about 538 feet above sea level and sweeping views across the eastern plains toward New York City. Its importance is rooted in the Revolutionary War: in 1777, General George Washington is said to have used this vantage point to watch the movements of British troops under General William Howe. Purchased in 1913, the land became a park honoring those wartime associations while preserving wooded terrain, trails, picnic areas, and one of the region’s most expansive vistas.
