Vedauwoo, in southeastern Wyoming between Laramie and Cheyenne, is a well-known outdoor landscape of Sherman Granite outcrops shaped by deep geologic time. The granite, about 1.4 billion years old, became exposed as the Laramie Mountains rose and younger layers eroded away, while wind and water sculpted the rock into hoodoos, rounded forms, and blocky towers. Known especially for technical climbing on granite faces and cracks, the area also draws campers, hikers, students, and day visitors. Within the Medicine Bow–Routt National Forest, it includes picnic areas, campsites, and trails, and supports wildlife ranging from elk and moose to raptors overhead.
