In 1913, Hallie Daggett accepted the job at the Eddy Gulch Lookout and became the Forest Service’s first woman lookout, serving from 1913 to 1927. At a time when men dominated the workplace, her step required special courage, self-confidence, and a true love for her country, and those qualities opened the door for other women to follow. One of them was Nancy Culbertson, who from 1960 to 1991 sat atop this mountain with the same devotion and selflessness as Hallie. Both women dedicated their lives to the protection and preservation of the Klamath National Forest.
