In 1942, as citizens of Great Falls feared that bombings like those of London might strike Washington, DC, and amid broader threats that included attacks on major cities, a small group of local residents met to consider how to protect life and property if such attacks reached their community. Those discussions led to the initial formation of the Great Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
