The Wilmington, Chadbourne and Conwayboro Railroad Engine No. 62, the Shoo-Fly, ran from Chadbourn, North Carolina, to Conwayboro, South Carolina, and circa 1887 it traveled on Main Street in downtown Conway. Before entering Main Street, the train originally veered onto a side track, then reversed and backed into downtown. The tracks merged with Main Street between 5th and 6th Avenues and ended at the Waccamaw River near the train depot and town wharf. Historic brick in Kingston Park was donated in memory of Martha Ann Ray by her family, Allen L., JoAnn, and Gregory Allen Ray. The Ray family had acquired the brick in 1969 when the St. John's Hotel, circa 1836, in Charleston, South Carolina, was demolished, used it to build their home on 7th Avenue, and donated the remaining brick in 2012 for the enjoyment of Conway residents and visitors.
