Built in 1870 to house Hopewell Academy students from across the state, this boarding house served that purpose until 1884, when Indiana's public school system was established. Academy principal David Moore supervised construction on land purchased from W. D. Covert for $900. From 1885 until 1913, the building was converted to the Johnson County Juvenile Home before becoming a private residence.
