John A. Pittman earned the Medal of Honor, the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force that can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States of America, for actions in Korea on 26 November 1950 while serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army; his actions were above and beyond the call of duty, and President Harry Truman conferred the medal upon him.
