Five cabin areas were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Letchworth State Park. The northernmost was Cabin Area C, where men from Gibsonville Camp 40 constructed slab-sided cabins in 1934-35. Near the entrance they also built the Caretaker's House, the large five-room cabin that still stands today. The Caretaker's House and five of the original C cabins remain in use more than 80 years later. The work formed part of the Civilian Conservation Corps' federal project of 1933–1942, created during the Great Depression to relieve unemployment and conserve natural resources.
