Baumoel's was a place for women's clothing, jewelry, gloves, and shoes, equipped with its own glove fitting station to satisfy women and young folk. It used a change conveyor to transport payments and bills of sale in miniature cable cars to the second floor and to return change and receipts to the sales counter. This cable-driven system was the forerunner of the modern vacuum tubes used by banks. Morris Baumoel redefined the department store with these ideas and began a magnificent business that lasted nearly 100 years.
