Joseph Levy Dabadie Jr. was born in New Roads, Louisiana, on November 21, 1926, and died there on August 23, 2015. He attended Louisiana State University from 1940 to 1942 and again from 1944 to 1946. In 1942, he volunteered for World War II service and was deployed to the Philippines and Japan. In 1973, he entered the Louisiana National Guard, attended the College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C., and in 1978 was elevated to the rank of Brigadier General and served as Chief of Staff of the Louisiana National Guard. He retired from the Louisiana Army National Guard and National Guard in 1986. His awards included the Legion of Merit, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Louisiana Distinguished Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and others. In 1999, he was inducted into the LSU Cadets of the Ole Skule Hall of Honor, and the Louisiana National Guard recognized his contributions by naming its Training Center at Camp Beauregard the Brigadier General J. Levy DaBadie, Jr Training Complex.
