James Lawrence Orr was born Aug. 29, 1852, and died Feb. 26, 1905. He served as a representative in the Legislature and as Solicitor of Eight Circuit for seven years. He was regarded as a fearless and efficient solicitor, an able and successful lawyer, one of the most prominent and successful manufacturers in the south, and a leader among men. For fourteen years he served the Piedmont Manufacturing Company faithfully as President and Treasurer.
