A Methodist Episcopal congregation erected a church on this site in 1830. In 1874, as the congregation prospered and grew, the original church was torn down and replaced. In 1900, the present building was constructed with funds donated by the Mary Durrell family. It reflects 19th century neoclassic style inspired by the architect Asher Benjamin.
