Old Julesburg stood at the original site located due north 1235 feet from this point. It was named for Jules Beni, whose trading post was established at the "Upper Crossing" of the Platte prior to 1860 at the junction of the Oregon and Overland Trails. The site served as a Pony Express station in 1860-61 and an Overland Stage station in 1859-65, and it was burned in an Indian raid on February 2, 1865.
