Chappell Hill's early masonry store was built in 1869 by merchant John E. Glass. It has thick sandstone walls, massive hand-hewn and pegged pine timbers, and doors and window shutters made with square nails. Its tenants have included grocers and the Chappell Hill Post Office. It was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1971 and restored by the Chappell Hill Historic Society.
