Around 1997, this Komatsu dump truck was used in the gold mines of Nevada. It was classed as a 100-ton truck, part of the large mining trucks that are essential to the industry and whose largest examples can haul 327 tons. Because a truck this big cannot travel on the interstate, it was disassembled in Nevada and moved to Tellus on four flatbed tractor trailers, with the frame on one, the engine and transmission on a second, the dump body on a third, and the tires on the last. Large trucks such as this Komatsu are the workhorses of large mines and quarries. It has a Komatsu SA12V140-I diesel engine with a displacement of 30.5 liters, or 1,861 cubic inches, 12 cylinders in a V block, an output of 1050 HP, and a top speed of 42.3 mph. It was manufactured by Komatsu Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan.
