Ethan Allen came here in 1787 to leave behind the martial deeds of a hero and till the soil as a peaceful farmer. On Feb. 12, 1789, he died here after a trip across the ice to South Hero. Memorial Tower was built on Indian Rock, a traditional Algonquin look-out.
