Violet Cemetery predates Arkansas statehood, the county, and the city, with the oldest grave dating to 1831. Initially secluded, it came to stand in the middle of downtown as Osceola grew west because of cotton farming and manufacturing. Many elected officials and war veterans from the Civil War through Vietnam rest here.
