The New Sweden Creamery Association was organized in Jan. 1895, with 350 cows pledged for the creamery, which was built in 1896. In Jan. 1898, Samuel Haugdahl was hired as butter maker, and he received many state and national awards in 1898-1899, including the 1900 Grand Prix De-Honeur at the International Exposition in Paris, France, for his butter exhibit. In 1902, John Sollie, then butter maker, was named Champion Butter Maker of the U.S. The creamery operated until Dec. 31, 1972.
