Thirty Mile Point Light stands on the south shore of Lake Ontario in western New York within Golden Hill State Park, named for its position 30 miles east of the Niagara River. Built in 1875 of hand-carved stone, the lighthouse remains a distinctive example of Great Lakes maritime architecture and navigation history. Its historic importance has been recognized through documentation by the Historic American Buildings Survey, listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, and selection in 1995 as Lake Ontario’s representative in the Lighthouses of the Great Lakes postage stamp series. Open to the public and under restoration, it remains both a landmark and a preserved reminder of lake travel’s past.
