The former Jualpa Mining Camp, also called Last Chance Basin Camp, stood near Juneau on Gold Creek in an area tied to one of the largest gold discoveries in the Juneau mining district. Established by the Alaska-Juneau Gold Mining Company between 1910 and 1913, it operated until 1944 and produced more than $80 million in gold, connecting this small mountainside site to the wider Gastineau Channel mining economy. Its most notable surviving structure is the 84-foot air compressor building, still housing the company compressor. The historic district also preserves railroad-related features and other industrial buildings and structures that reflect the camp’s mining operations.
