St. Henry Catholic Church belongs to a parish founded by German immigrants in 1839 and named for Henry II, Bavarian duke, king, and emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The present church is the parish's third building, following log and brick structures erected in 1840 and 1854. Designed by architect Adolph Druiding of Chicago in the Gothic Revival style and built by DeCurtins Bros. of Carthagena, it measures 163 feet long and 88 feet wide, and its 196-foot tower is one of the tallest structures in Mercer County. The tower contains three bells dedicated to St. Henry, St. Cyriacus, and the Virgin Mary, and a granite statue of St. Henry by Cincinnati sculptor Herman Broughman stands at the church. Inside, stained glass and Gothic detailing accompany 10 sandstone columns. Donations of materials and labor by parish members reduced construction costs to $45,535. In 1970, the church underwent extensive exterior and interior modifications, with the interior work done under Conrad Schmitt Studios of Milwaukee. Since 1845, priests of the Society of the Precious Blood have served the parish, whose filial parishes include St. Marys at Philothea, St. Wendelin at Wendelin, St. Francis at Cranberry Prairie, and St. Bernard at Burkettsville. The church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
