Along Hurricane Creek, vegetation changes with the water content of the soil. In the wet bottomland beside the creek, plants thrive in abundant moisture; farther along, other plants grow in soil of medium dampness; and on the top of a dry hill, vegetation suited to much drier conditions appears. These contrasts show that some plants flourish with little water, some require a great deal, and most live best with moderate amounts.
