In a log cabin that stood here, Frances Eliza Hodgson, newly arrived from England with her family, spent the winter of 1865. She helped support her family by giving music lessons and also opened a "Select Seminary for Young People." Here she met Dr. Swan Burnett, whom she married in 1873, and also began the writing that later made her famous.
