On the Arkansas River in North Little Rock, this maritime museum preserves naval history linked to Arkansas and the United States at sea. It grew from a 2001 effort by U.S. Navy veterans to return the submarine USS Razorback from Turkish service, and it opened in 2005 after the vessel arrived. The museum’s best-known exhibits are Razorback, a Balao-class submarine commissioned in 1944 that served under two flags for 57 years, and Hoga, a Navy tugboat that survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. Additional exhibits connect visitors to Arkansas’s naval past through artifacts from USS Arkansas and a memorial to USS Scorpion.
