Founded in 1807 as Honey Camp Baptist Church, Green Sea Baptist Church became the mother church to several Baptist churches in eastern South Carolina, including Spring Branch in 1830, Pleasant View in 1875, Mt. Zion in 1887, Mt. Olive in 1890, Dogwood in 1896, Carolina in 1902, and Grassy Bay in 1905. It was first located a few miles southwest near Honey Camp Swamp, and the congregation worshipped there until 1869, when J.H. Derham donated the present site. Admitted to the Cape Fear (N.C.) Association in 1822 and then to the Waccamaw Association in 1876, the church built its first sanctuary here as a frame building, replaced it with a larger one in 1886, lost that building to fire in 1931, and completed the present brick sanctuary in 1932.
