Brent Spence served as chairman of the U.S. House Banking and Currency Committee and was a delegate to the 44-nation Bretton Woods conference in N.H. in 1944 to promote fair commerce. This led to the creation of the International Monetary Fund and Bank and to legislation he sponsored in Congress. A Newport native and University of Cincinnati law graduate, he served in the Kentucky Senate from 1904 to 1908 and in the U.S. House from 1931 to 1963.
