Coe House at 371 West Michigan Avenue in Grass Lake, Michigan, links the village’s early settlement, later railroad-era use, and local preservation. The land was first acquired in 1837 by Daniel Walker, founder of Grass Lake village, and later passed through the Walker family to Aurora Walker and her husband Henry Vinkle Jr., who likely built the brick Italianate house between about 1871 and 1875. After the Vinkles left in the late 1890s, the house served as a railway boarding house and later a family home under several owners. Preserved as a museum since 1977, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
