Dexter Cemetery began in 1899 on land donated by John and Eliza Drake for early pioneers in the area. The United Brethren Church in Christ was organized there in 1902 under Rev. W.F. Herman, and its building was constructed in 1906 through donated labor, with Rev. Zenos White and Manley Owens as head carpenters. The Dexter congregation later joined the Methodist Synod and flourished under Rev. D.G. Radcliffe from 1909 to 1919, with a large Sunday School led by Evan Thorson and Eliza Drake. Other pastors included Rev. Doolittle, Glenn Phipps, O.T. Hills, and K.E. Earls. The congregation disbanded during the drought and Depression years of the 1930s, and a tornado destroyed the church building on June 17, 1944. In 1976, the Dexter Cemetery Association was formed to assure the perpetual care of the cemetery.
