Nanticoke Wildlife Area in Sussex County, Delaware, lies along the Nanticoke River and Broad Creek near Seaford and Bethel. Managed by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish and Wildlife, it spans 4,510 acres in three large tracts. The area is significant for its river landscape and for wildlife habitat, including one of Delaware’s few populations of Delmarva fox squirrels. At Phillips Landing on Broad Creek, the landscape also connects to early regional exploration through Captain John Smith’s Chesapeake Bay journey. It remains an important part of Delaware’s broader network of protected wildlife habitats.
