Ione's original Pavilion was built in 1893 by the 26th Agricultural District Fair Association and served as the town's most notable civic building until it was destroyed by fire on June 10, 1923. Considered a community necessity because it housed the Ione Women's Club and regularly hosted political gatherings and social affairs, it was replaced by an auditorium completed in 1925 at a cost of $7,500. The new building included a full kitchen, clubroom, and basketball court, sheltered displays and exhibits during annual Ione Homecoming celebrations when weather turned bad, and also hosted theatre productions and monthly dances, with revenue from events used to repay the reconstruction loan. On January 5, 1963, an unattended wood stove caused the structure, then called the Ione Auditorium, to burn down again, also destroying the town's rollerskating rink and Ione City Hall; the local fire chief, celebrating elsewhere that evening, fought the blaze in his tuxedo. The site remained a dirt lot until a public parking area was constructed in February of 2010.
