Fort Wilbourn stood on the eminence to the southwest, where the Third Army of Illinois volunteers was mustered in for service in the Black Hawk War. Here on June 16, 1832, Abraham Lincoln enlisted as a private in Jacob M. Early's company, his third enlistment of the war.
