Founded in 1843, Brenham was named for Richard Fox Brenham (1810-1843), a Republic of Texas patriot. It served as a railhead and supply center in the Civil War. Blinn Memorial College was founded here in 1883. Brenham became a center for farming, trade, and manufacturing, and it is home to the famous annual Maifest, a colorful folk tradition.
