Established by the Kentucky legislature in 1924 as the Western Kentucky Sub-experiment Station of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, the center began on an original 400 acres donated by Caldwell County citizens. S. J. Lowry served as superintendent from 1924 to 1963. The first office and service building was completed in 1931, and the Research and Extension Building was dedicated in 1980.
