Bolkum's Tavern played an important role in Attleboro's early history. It was the site of the organizational meeting of the Washington Rifle Corps, 4th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 5th Division. On June 24, 1815, an "L" of the tavern was dedicated for the regular use of the Bristol Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons for their first meeting. For a period in the mid-19th century, the mail was kept at the inn, and a wing of the tavern served as the first jewelry shop in East Attleborough.
