The cemetery holds the graves of over 500 Confederate soldiers who died from wounds, illness, or accidents while in Tullahoma. Four hundred four soldiers have been identified from records located many years after the Civil War. Col. Matt Martin, CSA deeded the land in 1889 to a three man board of trust charged with its care and maintenance. A spring flowing into Rock Creek at the back of the cemetery is called the Matt Martin spring.
