Stonehenge II is a well-known folk-art landmark in the Texas Hill Country, now on the Hill Country Arts Foundation campus in Ingram. Conceived by Al Shepperd and built with help from Doug Hill, it began near Hunt as an homage to Stonehenge, using steel, concrete, and plaster over wire mesh, with two central stones made from real limestone. About two-thirds the size of the original and not aligned to the sun, it reflects Hill’s impression of the ancient monument. Two fabricated Moai add to its playful scale. After an uncertain future in 2010, the work was moved and reconstructed in Ingram, where it remains a notable regional attraction.
