The Evel Knievel Museum is a nonprofit institution dedicated to the life and career of stunt performer Evel Knievel, born Robert Craig Knievel. Developed from Knievel’s own wish for a museum about his legacy, it grew out of collecting efforts begun in 2012 and plans formed during the restoration of his 1974 Mack truck, Big Red. Founded by Mike Patterson, Lathan McKay, and James Caplinger, it became known for a vast collection of more than 1,000 artifacts, including motorcycles, helmets, leathers, photographs, letters, and the Skycycle X-2. Its exhibits followed Knievel from Butte, Montana, to his 1970s fame, presenting him as both daredevil and major figure in American popular culture.
