James Whitcomb Riley, known as "The Hoosier Poet," was born in Greenfield, Indiana, on October 7, 1853, and died in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 22, 1916. He was a friend of "Bill Nye" and visited "Buck Shoals" on the French Broad River near this church.
