From 1886 to 1942, the Club Wharf was the only allowed route onto Jekyll Island, serving as the island's gateway for Jekyll Island Club members, their guests, and employees. It provided a place to gather and socialize upon arrival or to say long goodbyes after the winter season. Originally located in front of Sans Souci, the wharf was replaced after years of wear and storm damage, and a new wharf was completed in 1916 in time for the opening of the winter season.
