The Mary Ann Forge and Furnace stood one half mile east on Friendship Tract along Furnace Creek. Founded in 1761-62 by George Ross, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Mark Bird, it produced cannon and cannon balls for General Washington’s Continental Army, and the site marked the home of the iron master.
