General Edward H. Tarrant, a veteran of the War of 1812, a member of the Texas Congress, and a courageous Indian fighter, was buried 3 miles northeast from here. Born in North Carolina in 1796, he died in Parker County, Texas, on August 2, 1858. He was reburied in Ellis County near his former plantation in 1859, and his remains were removed to the county named in his honor in 1928 and reinterred in Fort Worth.
