Jennie and Lot Wilbur married in 1868, when she was 24 and he was two years younger, and although they had no children, they became important figures in Snohomish County business and civic life. After leaving Michigan for Wisconsin, then moving to Minnesota, they migrated to the Puget Sound country in 1875. Lot worked in logging, the drug business, and insurance, and after arriving in Snohomish, with historian William Whitfield among his first customers, the couple opened the county’s first drug store on December 18, 1875, at the corner of First Street and Avenue C, where their two-story brick building still stands as the oldest brick building in the county. Their remedies became so popular that 13 years later they were able to erect a two-story brick building designed by architect J. S. White. Jennie and Lot remained community leaders until Jennie’s death in 1915. Lot later sold the business to the new Rexall chain, the brick building became a depot for the Milwaukee Road, and he died in 1930.
