Early in the 1900s, A.P. Wiley, storekeeper and postmaster at Palo Verde, financed miners to prospect this area. He also financed the first well, approximately 9 miles southerly of here. It was used and maintained for years by prospectors and cattlemen, and also served the wagon and early automobile routes connecting Palo Verde Valley, Dos Palmas and Niland.
