The Indian Valley Railroad Company was incorporated in 1916 by Engels Copper Mining Company to build a standard gauge railroad from a connection on the Western Pacific Railroad at Paxton to Engels, a distance of 22 miles. This facilitated the movement of ore concentrates, freight and passengers. The railroad operated until 1938.
